Baltic Dry index at Over 1-Month Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, retreated for a fourth straight session on Wednesday, slumping about 2.1% to its lowest since August 27 at 3,113 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, fell further, dropping by 3.4% to its lowest since August 25 at 4,928 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased by 0.3% to 2,384 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index remained unchanged at 1,797 points, its highest since August 2022.
