The Hartford names Morris Tooker CEO, succeeding Christopher Swift

The Hartford Insurance Group named Morris Tooker as its next CEO, succeeding Christopher Swift. Tooker will assume the role on March 1, 2027, while Swift will become executive chair of the board and step down in the second half of 2027. The company reported 2025 net income of $3.8 billion, up 23% from a year earlier.

By Ashish Tiwari Sept 30 (The Insurer) — The Hartford Insurance Group named Morris Tooker as its next CEO, succeeding Christopher Swift, who will step down from the role, the company said on Wednesday. Tooker, currently president at The Hartford, will assume the role on March 1, 2027, the company said. Swift, who has led the US insurer since July 2014, will become executive chair of the board and advise management and directors. He plans to step down as executive chair in the second half of 2027.

The board also elected Tooker as a director, effective October 1. He will join the board's finance, investment and risk management committee. Tooker has been president at The Hartford since February 2025, overseeing its business and personal insurance, employee benefits, claims, risk services, and sales and distribution operations.

He joined the company in 2015 as chief underwriting officer and has since held senior commercial insurance roles During Swift's tenure, The Hartford expanded its employee benefits and specialty insurance businesses through the 2017 acquisition of Aetna's US group life and disability business and the 2019 purchase of specialty insurer Navigators. 8 billion, up 23% from a year earlier, supported by higher underwriting gains and investment income. 15 million long-term incentive target.
