Stoxx 600 rises 0.6% as FTSE and DAX edge higher into month end

STOXX 600 up 0.6% on the day; FTSE up 0.7%, DAX up 0.4% and CAC just above flatline. Utilities lead up 1.7%, oil and gas down 0.9%; Greggs shares up close to 6% after raising annual profit outlook.

6% on the day as the month and quarter draw to a close. 5% after rising for five straight months, and it is ending Q3 close to where it started. That compares with a 10% gain in Q2. Looking ahead, central bank interest rates, energy prices and government bond yields are expected to stay elevated for some time, leaving global stocks facing a test.

4% higher, while the CAC is just above the flatline. 7%, helped by British utility companies. 9%. Shares in Greggs are up close to 6%.

Fast-food chain raised its annual profit outlook, while shares in German drug-packaging maker Gerresheimer are nearly 5% higher after the company reported a sequential recovery in second-quarter revenue. (Sophie Kiderlin)
