Comcast rolls out fiber sensing to detect threats near fiber routes in real time

Comcast says it has deployed fiber sensing technology across its network to detect vibrations near fiber routes in real time, flag threats such as nearby construction earlier, reduce outages and speed repairs, and distinguish activity types and pinpoint locations. It is evaluating AI-enabled expansions including automated drone dispatch to assess damage.
