FTSE 100 Falls to Over 2-Week Low
The FTSE 100 turned lower during Tuesday’s session, falling more than 0.5% to an over 2-week low and trailing other European markets as weakness spread across several major sectors. Oil stocks were among the biggest drags, with Shell down 1.5% and BP losing 2.1% as Brent crude slipped toward $104 a barrel. Water companies also came under pressure after Andy Burnham outlined plans for greater public involvement in the sector, including stronger powers for local mayors and tighter restrictions on executive bonuses. United Utilities and Severn Trent both declined. Banks weakened as well, with HSBC, Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group each losing around 0.5% to 0.7%, while AstraZeneca fell 0.7%. InterContinental Hotels Group provided some support, gaining around 2% as lower oil prices benefited the broader travel sector.
