L3Harris gets more than $6 billion Lockheed Martin contract to expand THAAD propulsion production
L3Harris said it received a contract valued at more than $6 billion over seven years from Lockheed Martin to expand propulsion production for the THAAD system, including building a new facility to support increased Solid Rocket Boost Motors and Liquid Divert and Attitude Control Systems output.
L3Harris Technologies said on Tuesday it received a contract worth more than $6 billion over seven years from Lockheed Martin to expand propulsion production for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. The deal is linked to a July Department of War initiative to quadruple THAAD output, under which Lockheed Martin, the system's prime contractor, agreed to significantly increase production of the missile-defense interceptor. THAAD is designed to intercept and destroy ballistic missile threats at the short-, medium- and intermediate-range levels.
Melbourne, Florida-based L3Harris makes THAAD Solid Rocket Boost Motors (SRBMs) and Liquid Divert and Attitude Control Systems (LDACS) for the Missile Defense Agency. The company said it plans to build a new facility to support higher SRBMs and LDACS production. L3Harris signed an agreement with DoW and Lockheed in July to ramp up propulsion output for the system.
