Trump gains second vacancy on conservative 5th Circuit appeals court

Judge Leslie Southwick said he plans to retire from active service on the New Orleans-based 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals at the end of 2026 or upon confirmation of his successor, whichever is later. The move gives Trump a second vacancy to fill on the conservative-majority court covering Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
