Meta Platforms shares rise 36% in September, nearing $2 trillion value
The rally follows the launch of the Muse personal AI assistant and new AI products, after earlier pressure from heavy spending, legal risks and softer revenue expectations.
Meta Platforms shares climbed 36% in September, their biggest monthly gain since July 2013, lifting the company’s market value to near $2 trillion. The move followed the launch of the personal AI assistant Muse, which investors view as a new growth avenue and a partial answer to concerns about returns on large AI investments. The stock had been under pressure earlier this year from heavy AI spending, legal risks tied to its social media business and softer revenue expectations. It was about 18% below the start of the year before the recent rebound, and has risen roughly 43% since an August low.
Meta is broadening its AI product lineup, including a portable Muse device and a camera-less smart glasses version. The company expects capex of about $140 billion in 2026, increasing to $197 billion in 2027 and $215 billion in 2028. 6 billion, up 33% YoY.
