ENERGY: NHC: Low-Pressure System Off Africa to Fizzle by Weekend

The low-pressure system off the coast of Cabo Verde has increased its chance of cyclone formation in the next seven days to 40%, but is expected to be beaten by wind shear by the weekend * This tracks the pattern of tropical depressions seen so far this year in the Atlantic, which have been prevented from developing into hurricanes by high wind shear caused by El Nino. * A low-pressure area associated with a tropical wave that just moved off the west coast of Africa has formed about 600 miles southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. A short-lived tropical depression could develop Thursday or Friday as it moves northwestward to northward, but strong upper-level winds should end development by the weekend. Formation chance: 30% through 48 hours / 40% through 7 days. * Source: NOAA The remnant low of former TS Fay is located about 800 miles southwest of the Azores, with shower activity increasing this morning. Significant re-development is unlikely as it moves generally westward over the next couple of days. Formation chance: 20% through 48 hours / 20% through 7 days.
