Fed’s Barkin: Market rates may not stay low enough for inflation
Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin said the Fed pays close attention to market financial conditions but cannot rely on market interest rates staying at levels adequate to lower inflation.
The Federal Reserve watches market financial conditions closely, but it cannot assume market interest rates will stay at levels sufficient to bring inflation down, Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin said Tuesday. “You can't count that today's yield curve will look like tomorrow's yield curve,” Barkin said.
