Baltic Dry Index at Over 1-Week High

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, advanced for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, rising about 1% to its highest since September 14 at 3,432 points. The panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by 1.9% to 2,299 points; and the capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, went up by 0.9% to 5,892 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index rose by 0.3% to 1,776 points.
