EU rail suppliers lose €97 billion annually from closed markets - study
European rail companies miss business opportunities worth €97 billion per year because trade barriers restrict their access to foreign markets, according to a study by Bain & Company for the European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE). EU rail suppliers have access to only 56% of the world's rail markets, down from 59% in the 2024 study, amid increased focus on domestic manufacturing by countries like China, India, and the US. The global rail market is projected to grow to €266.8 billion in 2029-2031 from €221 billion in 2023-2025.
