New Zealand Stocks Extend Gain, End 0.4% Higher

The NZX 50 rose 54 points, or 0.4%, to close at 13,875 on Tuesday, extending gains from the previous session, mainly buoyed by gains in materials, energy, financials, and real estate. The broader index remained at its highest level since September 7, tracking a rally on Wall Street overnight, supported by strong AI-related tech stocks, while oil prices and US Treasury yields eased. Optimism over the Trump-Xi summit later this week also fueled sentiment, as AI and tariffs are expected to be discussed at the meeting. Further easing in oil prices continued to lift sentiment amid efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East. Notable gains included Vulcan Steel (4.8%), Briscoe Group (3.1%), Colonial Motor (2.8%), Channel Infrastructure (2.0%), Hallenstein Glasson (1.6%), Port of Tauranga (1.5%), Mainfreight (1.2%), and Meridian Energy (0.9%).
