Meta, NEC, Sumitomo Electric partner on Petal transatlantic submarine cable system

Meta, NEC and Sumitomo Electric are collaborating to build the Petal transatlantic submarine cable system, aiming for petabit-class capacity. The roughly 7,000 km system will connect the US and France, with operations planned to start in 2029. Meta will fund and operate the cable, NEC will handle design and construction, and Sumitomo Electric will supply the fiber.
