Stadler, Metra unveil first US battery-electric FLIRT train

Stadler will present Metra’s first US-market battery-electric FLIRT train at APTA EXPO 2026 in Chicago on Oct. 5, 2026. The train is positioned as a zero-emission option for non-electrified corridors, recharging via 480V yard cabling, charging infrastructure, or regenerative braking. Metra has ordered eight battery-electric trainsets, with passenger service targeted for 2028.
