Redeia CEO inspects France power link works, project 70% complete

Redeia CEO Roberto García Merino and Spain’s energy secretary Joan Groizard visited the Bay of Biscay France interconnector works in Gatika. Project execution is 70% complete, supporting a planned increase in Spain-France power exchange capacity to 5,000 MW from 2,800 MW. Construction includes civil works for the Gatika converter station, ongoing onshore underground routing, and offshore cable installation. Red Eléctrica has completed the first 65-km offshore cable-laying phase, with further marine campaigns scheduled through summer 2027. The interconnector is EU co-financed.
