Romanian prosecutors investigate pro-Russian ex-presidential frontrunner for fraud

Romanian prosecutors said they are investigating Calin Georgescu over an alleged €1.1 million ($1.26 million) fraud scheme. Georgescu was described as a pro-Russian former frontrunner in Romania’s 2024 canceled presidential election; the EU and NATO country canceled that election in December 2024.
