India infrastructure output grows 4.8% y/y in August

India's infrastructure output grew 4.8% year-on-year in August, with cement and electricity output offsetting weakness in energy-related sectors. Cement output rose 12.5%, steel production 3.4%, and electricity generation 11.6%. Coal and crude oil output fell.

8% year-on-year in August as strong cement and electricity output outweighed weakness in energy-related sectors, according to government data released on Monday. This is the third data release under the new series, which uses 2022-23 as the base year and expands the core sector basket to include iron ore. Infrastructure output had grown a revised 5% in July from a year earlier, the data showed. 7% increase in July.
