The suspected cyber compromise of two US-bound tankers in August highlighted the marine sector’s growing exposure to cyber risks as vessels become increasingly connected, according to Howden Re. US authorities boarded two foreign-flagged vessels in the Gulf of Mexico on August 21 and 24 after their networks were reportedly compromised by malicious software.
