SOFTS — New York cocoa posts 11% weekly loss, raw sugar hits three — week low
(Adds comments and weekly price moves) NEW YORK, Sept 18 (Reuters) — ICE New York cocoa fell sharply on Friday to post a 11% weekly loss, while London cocoa registered its third consecutive week of losses. Raw sugar fell to a three-week low, while coffee rose. Cocoa London cocoa settled down £318, or 7.5%, at £3,934 per metric ton. The market fell 9% in the week. A dealer said this season's surplus was weighing on prices and that there were fears the recent run-up in prices dented demand in the third quarter. Elsewhere, rains in West Africa have been sparse of late, but the market is expecting a buildup in supplies at ports as the new marketing season gets underway. Ivory Coast has said cocoa shipments are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks as a new marketing system gets underway, with nearly 26,000 tons having already arrived at ports between the season start on September 1 and September 13. New York cocoa fell 7.7% to $5,327 a ton, having hit a 1-1/2-month low of $5,290 earlier.
