US flash flood losses estimated to reach tens of millions of dollars: Aon

By Navneeta Nandan Sept 18 (The Insurer) — Economic and insured losses from flash floods that struck parts of the US from September 10 to September 17 are expected to reach the tens of millions of dollars, Aon said in its weekly cat report on Friday. Areas affected include the Ohio River Valley, Connecticut, the New York City metropolitan area, Arizona and New Mexico. The events were driven by distinct weather systems, including training thunderstorms and a late-season monsoon surge across the Southwest US. Slow-moving, training thunderstorms developed over southeastern Ohio, causing repeated rounds of heavy rainfall across Jackson, Vinton, Gallia, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties on September 10 and September 11. Local media reported minimal infrastructure or property damage. A separate system brought heavy rain to the tristate region on September 13 and September 14. Flood waters damaged multiple commercial properties and left several vehicles submerged. On September 16 and September 17, a late-season monsoon plume moved into the Southwest US.
