UPDATE 1 — Germany will work with other countries no matter what Trump thinks, Klingbeil says

(Adds details from paragraph three) By Maria Martinez BERLIN, Sept 18 (Reuters) — Plenty of countries want to work more closely with Germany and Berlin will make the most of those opportunities independently of what U.S. President Donald Trump says, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said on Friday. "We should try to detach ourselves a little from whatever mood Donald Trump is in at the moment, what's on his mind and whatever he's threatening to do next," Klingbeil said ahead of the meeting of finance ministers in Dublin. Germany is deepening its cooperation with Canada, particularly on critical minerals. "We're strengthening our cooperation with Canada and to a certain extent, I don't really care what Donald Trump thinks about it," Klingbeil said. The Irish presidency has included the topic of artificial intelligence in the agenda for the meeting, which Klingbeil considers "fundamental" and "time-critical." "Europe needs to improve when it comes to artificial intelligence," Klingbeil said. "I do not want to leave it to people like Elon Musk or Peter Thiel to determine what the future development will be." (Reporting by Maria Martinez, Editing by Friederike Heine and Linda Pasq
