Claude Gets a Bigger Job: Anthropic Expands AI Agent Push Across Workflows

Anthropic is folding Claude Cowork into its core chatbot experience, giving users access to tools for longer-running tasks, documents, presentations and design directly within conversations. Starting Wednesday, Claude users will no longer have to decide whether a task belongs in Cowork or a standard chat. Anthropic said Claude can determine what a task requires and access Cowork and Design capabilities from any conversation, while retaining the context, skills and connectors already available to the user. The changes are rolling out first to Claude Pro and Max subscribers over the coming weeks across the web, desktop and mobile apps. Team and Free plans are expected to follow, while Enterprise administrators will be notified at least 30 days before changes are made to their organizations. Users can ask Claude to create documents or presentations, edit the resulting work and share it through a single link. Presentations and documents can also be downloaded as PowerPoint or PDF files, with the new capabilities available in beta on paid plans.

Enterprise administrators can choose when to enable them. The company is positioning the changes as a way to eliminate the need to move work between separate AI tools. For example, a user could ask Claude to analyze a weekly business pipeline, identify items that slipped, turn the findings into a report and create a five-slide presentation from the same conversation. Anthropic said users can review the work from their phones, make changes and schedule recurring tasks such as a weekly report.

The move reflects Anthropic’s broader effort to make Claude capable of carrying out multi-step workflows rather than simply generating responses to individual prompts. Anthropic Pushes Claude Toward AI Agents Anthropic said Cowork was originally built as a separate environment for larger projects, while Claude Design was developed for visual work. The company said users found it frustrating to determine where a task belonged and that work started in one environment did not always carry over to another. Under the new setup, Claude can work across those capabilities from a single conversation.

Users can also choose how much autonomy Claude has. The default setting requires Claude to ask for approval before taking an action, while another option allows it to continue working and only request user input when something requires closer attention. Anthropic said users retain final control. The company is increasingly positioning Claude as an AI agent capable of handling entire workflows, from research and analysis to producing finished business materials.

Anthropic has also recently expanded Claude into areas including financial advice, commerce and small-business workflows, according to its recent product announcements. Photo: Shutterstock Read Also: PE's Middle-Market Deal Boom Is Moving Downmarket as $860 Billion 'Zombie' Problem Grows
