Trump administration envoys who were in Kyiv and Moscow over the weekend described their talks as “substantive,” but neither Russia nor Ukraine appeared to have much faith in the US diplomatic effort aimed at peace. Zelenskyy said he expects the war to continue into winter, while Putin raised the prospect of a wider mobilization in a speech before upcoming parliamentary elections. Putin also sharpened his rhetoric against the West, portraying the war “as part of a much broader confrontation,” Le Monde reported. Both sides continued to exchange fire.
Kyiv said it struck four targets in Russia on Saturday night, while its air defenses shot down 82 drones and six missiles.
