Australian shares rise 0.4% to 9,039 as sentiment improves

Australian shares rose 33 points, or 0.4%, to 9,039 in Monday morning deals, reversing prior-session weakness. Gains were driven by non-energy minerals, energy minerals, tech and logistics, but capped ahead of China data later this week.

4% to 9,039 in Monday morning trade, reversing the prior session’s weakness as non-energy minerals, energy minerals, tech and logistics posted solid gains. Sentiment also improved as Asia-Pacific markets traded broadly higher on signs that the Trump administration could seek to eliminate Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon even without a formal agreement with Tehran. Locally, August services growth was revised higher as confidence improved to close to its level before the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Gains were capped by caution ahead of key data later this week in China, Australia’s top trading partner, including August CPI and PPI and trade figures.
