Eos Energy rises after Google, MN8 clean energy partnership
Eos Energy Enterprises said a commercial collaboration with Google and MN8 Energy will use its Z3 zinc-based long-duration battery system at the Mammoth Solar project in West Virginia.
Shares of Eos Energy Enterprises Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) were trading higher Wednesday morning after the company announced a commercial collaboration with Google and MN8 Energy. Under the agreement, renewable power producer MN8 Energy will develop, own and operate the Mammoth Solar project in Kanawha County, West Virginia, on a reclaimed coal mine site with up to $350 million in capital investment. The project is designed to provide around-the-clock clean capacity to the PJM grid for Google’s regional data centers and combines 86 megawatts of utility-scale solar with a dual-storage setup.
That storage system pairs 70 megawatts, or 280 megawatt-hours, of short-duration lithium-ion batteries with 10 megawatts, or 100 megawatt-hours, of Eos’ Z3 aqueous zinc long-duration battery. Eos’ technology provides 10 hours of continuous storage, converting intermittent solar output into a dispatchable, predictable resource designed to match hyperscale data center load profiles. The deployment is Google’s first project using Eos’ American-made Z3 system and the initial rollout under the previously established MN8-Eos Master Supply Agreement. Under the contract, Google will off-take the energy, capacity and clean energy attributes from the facility.
Commercial operations are set to phase in, with solar generation scheduled for 2028, lithium-ion storage for 2029 and Eos’ long-duration storage system for 2030. Eos Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Kroeker said the Z3 system addresses grid reliability challenges by extending the value of clean generation across more hours of the day to provide dependable capacity when demand peaks. Eos Energy Enterprises shares rose 15.07% to $3.49 in premarket trading Wednesday and were near their 52-week low of $3.01, according to Pro data.
