Axon shares slide nearly 8% as rates and margin worries hit

Axon Enterprise shares fell nearly 8% Tuesday to about $522, extending Monday’s decline. The move was tied to rising Treasury yields and lingering investor concern about post-earnings margin compression and heavy spending.

Shares of Axon Enterprise Inc. (NASDAQ: AXON ) are sliding Tuesday afternoon, dropping nearly 8% to hover near $522 after falling over 5% during Monday’s session.

The extended downturn is being driven by a combination of broader macroeconomic pressure on high-valuation growth stocks and lingering investor caution regarding operating margin compression.

Here’s what investors need to know.

Axon Enterprise stock is among today’s weakest performers.

Why is AXON stock dropping? Treasury Yield Surge Pressures Premium Multiples A primary catalyst behind Tuesday’s selling pressure is a sharp spike in benchmark borrowing costs across equity markets.

With the 10-year Treasury yield climbing to 4.8% and the 30-year yield hitting 5.25%, investors are trimming exposure to high-multiple growth equities.

Because Axon trades at a premium valuation relative to broader technology and defense peers, rising discount rates weigh heavily on its market-implied future cash flows, driving sector-wide pressure across high-P/E software and hardware names.

Post-Earnings Margin and Spending Concerns The slide also represents a continued hangover from Axon’s second-quarter financial update on August 5.

While the company delivered impressive top-line execution, reporting $904.3 million in revenue, up 35% year-over-year to mark its tenth consecutive quarter of 30-plus percent growth, and raised its full-year revenue guidance to 32%—34% growth (up from 30%—32%), the market’s initial enthusiasm quickly gave way to scrutiny over profitability dynamics.

During the earnings presentation, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Rick Smith praised the record performance, attributing momentum to accelerating adoption across Axon’s public safety AI tools, cloud software and connected device ecosystem.

However, Chief Operating and Financial Officer Brittany Bagley kept full-year adjusted EBITDA margin guidance flat at approximately 25.5%, signaling to Wall Street that incremental revenue is being heavily plowed back into operational scaling.

As a result, investors are actively weighing strong platform health and a 123% net revenue retention rate against compressed operating margins, elevated research and development spending, stock-based compensation and integration costs from recent acquisitions like Dedrone as Axon continues funding its aggressive AI expansion.
