Shares of Novavax Inc (NASDAQ: NVAX ) are trading higher Tuesday.

The stock is up over 30% over the trailing month as traders weigh updated autumn vaccine authorizations against the company’s broader strategic pivot toward licensing and cost-structure optimization.

Novavax stock is surging to new heights today.

Why is NVAX stock up today? FDA Clearance For Updated 2026—2027 Nuvaxovid Formula Providing fundamental support heading into September, Novavax secured U.S.

FDA emergency use authorization in late August for its updated protein-based 2026—2027 COVID-19 vaccine (Nuvaxovid).

The approval positions Novavax as the primary non-mRNA alternative for the fall vaccination season alongside mRNA offerings from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.

Investors are monitoring early pharmacy shipments as Novavax targets commercial delivery through established retail distribution networks across North America and Europe.

Q2 Guidance Upgrade And Strategic Pivot Support for the stock is further reinforced by Novavax’s second-quarter financial update delivered in early August, where management raised its full-year revenue guidance following a top-line earnings beat.

CEO John C.

Jacobs highlighted the structural shift during the call: "Our Q2 performance demonstrates the execution of our corporate transformation.

Through our strategic partnership with Sanofi, we have extended our runway, reduced our operating expense profile, and positioned Novavax to capture recurring value from our Matrix-M platform while maintaining lean commercial operations for the upcoming vaccination season." Competitive Landscape: Landmark Merck-Moderna Phase 3 Cancer Vaccine Milestone The broader vaccine sector was reshaped in late August by major clinical developments from Merck & Co. and Moderna Inc The two companies announced that their Phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial evaluating intismeran autogene (mRNA-4157), a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, in combination with Keytruda successfully met its primary endpoint.

The combination therapy significantly improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival in patients with high-risk stage III/IV melanoma post-resection.

The breakthrough late-August readout validated mRNA technology beyond infectious diseases, sparking a sector-wide rally in the State Street SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (NYSE: XBI ) and drawing investor focus across the broader biotech space.
