Baltic Dry Index rises 2.1% to 3,107; capesize and panamax up

Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index rose 2.1% to 3,107, its highest since June 3, for a sixth straight session. Capesize rose 2.1% to 5,138; panamax gained 2.1% to 2,292; supramax inched up 0.1% to 1,645.

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index rose 2.1% to 3,107 on Thursday, marking a sixth consecutive session of gains and reaching its highest level since June 3.

The index tracks rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, also increased for a sixth day, advancing 2.1% to its highest since June 3 at 5,138 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, gained for the fifth session, rising 2.1% to its highest since August 12 at 2,292 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index edged up by 0.1% to 1,645 points.
