Investors, economists and policymakers hope he uses it to provide clarity on how he assesses economic factors like the Iran war, latest tariffs, and AI boom amid President Donald Trump’s continued attacks on Fed independence.
KPMG Chief Economist Diane Swonk, who’s attended the conference for decades, called Warsh’s remarks “as critical” as the ones former Fed Chair Jerome Powell delivered in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re in as challenging a moment as I remember,” Swonk said. “Kevin didn’t ask for it, but he’s been dealt a hand, and it’s a hard hand to play.” “He has an opportunity to really control the narrative more and control it in a way that is productive, not just for himself but for the entire Fed,” Swonk added. “And that’s important right now in this particular moment.”
