What’s behind AEO gains? Abercrombie’s Blowout Q2 Quarter Lifts Apparel Retailers The catalyst lifting apparel equities across the board was Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF ), which surged over 30% on Wednesday.
Abercrombie reported record second-quarter net sales of $1.27 billion and delivered $4.17 in adjusted EPS, vastly outperforming Wall Street’s $1.99 consensus estimate, while raising its full-year fiscal 2026 outlook.
For the full year fiscal 2026, Abercrombie raised its GAAP EPS guidance to a range of $13.10 to $13.60, up from $10.20 to $11.00, comfortably topping Wall Street consensus estimates of $10.71.
The retailer also bumped its full-year sales outlook to $5.529 billion from prior $5.424 billion—$5.529 billion range against analyst projections of $5.464 billion.
Looking ahead to the third-quarter, Abercrombie expects GAAP EPS of $2.90 to $3.20 vs. $2.84 consensus on net sales of $1.355 billion to $1.367 billion, outpacing Wall Street’s $1.345 billion estimate.
Abercrombie’s exceptional demand metrics, alongside broader macroeconomic data showing resilient consumer spending, reassured investors that apparel retail demand remains durable despite ongoing consumer headwinds.
ANF Management Commentary Highlights Momentum Across Brands During Abercrombie & Fitch’s second-quarter earnings call Wednesday morning, Chief Executive Officer Fran Horowitz emphasized the sustained operational momentum lifting the business: "We delivered record second quarter net sales and our 15th consecutive quarter of growth, reflecting our teams’ continued focus on serving customers with compelling product, marketing, and experiences.
Sales growth was above the expectation we set in May and was balanced across regions and brands, with both Abercrombie and Hollister achieving record second quarter net sales." Addressing demand trends heading into the critical back-to-school season, Horowitz added: "We had incredible demand for the brand, and it really honestly exceeded our inventory at many points during the quarter.
The team was absolutely chasing, chasing, chasing… We’re excited to see the acceleration and have nice momentum heading into the balance of back to school in the back half."
