European markets close mixed; FTSE 100 rises while continent slips

European cash markets finished mixed: the Euro Stoxx 50 closed down 0.22 percent, the DAX closed down 0.11 percent, the CAC 40 closed down 0.37 percent and the FTSE 100 closed up 0.35 percent.
