European session: oil rises, U.S. futures mixed, sterling firmer
European session trading shows WTI crude up 2.68% and Brent up 2.58%, while U.S. equity futures are mixed and EUR/USD, GBP/USD and the dollar index move modestly.
US index futures are showing S&P futures down 0.05 percent, Nasdaq futures up 0.03 percent, Dow futures down 0.16 percent, and Russell futures down 0.13 percent.
In currencies, the dollar index is down 0.21 percent, EUR/USD is up 0.15 percent, GBP/USD is up 0.27 percent, and EUR/GBP is down 0.08 percent.
Oil prices show WTI crude at 86.65, up 2.68 percent, and Brent crude at 93.98, up 2.58 percent.
UK volume leaders include Lloyds Banking Group down 0.5 percent, Barclays down 0.87 percent, BP up 1.04 percent, HSBC up 0.43 percent, and Shell up 0.23 percent.
Continental European volume leaders are Deutsche Telekom down 1.08 percent, Novartis up 0.05 percent, UBS down 0.56 percent, Sanofi down 0.13 percent, and Allianz down 0.39 percent.
