The FTSE MIB fell 0.2% to below 53,000 in early trading on Wednesday, extending losses from the previous session, as elevated global bond yields and higher oil prices continue to weigh on risk appetite.

The index remained under pressure as long-term government bond yields climbed to fresh highs.

Tensions in the Middle East has added to market concerns, raising the risk of prolonged energy-supply disruptions that could push inflation higher.

Shares of STMicroelectronics dropped further, falling 1.2%, as tech stocks remained particularly vulnerable to rising yields.

Prysmian dropped 1.1%, while banks also traded lower, with UniCredit down 1.0%, BPER Banca 0.8%, and FinecoBank 1.5%.
