The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, advanced for a second session on Monday, rising about 0.5% to 2,878 points.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, also increased for the second day, up 1.2% to 4,590 points; and the supramax index went up 0.4% to its highest level since July 28 at 1,628 points.

Conversely, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell by 1% to its lowest since August 4 at 2,206 points.
