European Stocks Poised for Flat Open
European equity markets are set for a subdued open amid elevated oil prices and ahead of US inflation data
European equity markets were poised for a subdued open on Wednesday as investors remained cautious amid elevated oil prices and looked ahead to a key US inflation reading.
Markets remained doubtful that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached, despite assurances from Pakistan’s defense minister that Washington and Tehran are moving closer to a deal.
In Europe, investors will review final July inflation figures for Germany and Italy, alongside earnings from major companies including E.ON, Hannover Rueck, M&G and Brenntag, among others.
Meanwhile, Dutch lender ABN Amro delivered better-than-expected quarterly earnings as increased fee income and stronger lending revenue boosted results, prompting the bank to upgrade its forecast for its largest source of revenue.
In premarket trading, Euro Stoxx 50 and Stoxx 600 futures were little changed to slightly lower.
