Nikkei 225 Index gains 0.1% to above 67,000 in post-holiday trade
The Nikkei 225 Index rose 0.1% to above 67,000 while the broader Topix Index gained 0.3% to 4,113 in post-holiday trading on Wednesday, extending this week’s advance as technology and financial stocks moved higher.
Sentiment toward technology stocks was supported by upbeat outlooks from CoreWeave and Super Micro Computer, with both companies benefiting from the ongoing artificial intelligence spending boom.
Notable performers included Kioxia Holdings (2.7%), Advantest (0.8%) and Recruit Holdings (2.6%).
Major banks also advanced, including Mitsubishi UFJ (2.2%), Sumitomo Mitsui (2.5%) and Mizuho Financial (1.8%).
On the geopolitical front, investors assessed the prospects of a US-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after Pakistan’s defense minister said Washington and Tehran are “close to some sort of arrangement.”
