EU Opens AI GigaFactory Tender

EU OPENS AI GIGAFACTORY TENDER Brussels will select up to seven projects, backed by as much as €10B in EU and national funding and expected to attract at least €20B in private capital.

Each facility will house at least 100,000 advanced AI chips, roughly four times the scale of current EU AI factories.

The sites will support training, fine-tuning and inference for frontier models while providing computing access to startups, industry, researchers and public agencies.

Together, they are expected to more than double the capacity of Europe's existing 19-factory AI network.

The formal tender follows 77 preliminary proposals covering 60 sites across 16 member states.

The Commission also wants the projects to create predictable demand for European-designed AI processors and eventually support domestic chip manufacturing.

Bids close November 12, with awards expected in July 2027.
